Hardy plants can be easy to grow, hence why they might be a good start for people who haven’t grown a single plant in their life. Moreover, these plants can withstand cold temperatures, so it’s perfect to plant and grow in almost every season.

If you’re new to the plant community and would like to start off strong and easy, here are some hardy plants that you can try growing for springtime!

1. Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile)

A Chamomile is a yellow daisy-like flower that appears in the form of small shrubs which can grow from 8 to 24 inches in height. Chamomile is also known to be one of the easiest plants to grow this spring as it usually blooms in June or July. 

It could also withstand extreme temperatures up to -20°F during winter, as well as droughts—this easily makes it one of the best hardy plants you can plant in your garden! Just make sure to water it at least once or twice a week during those days.

2. Corn Marigold (Glebionis segetum)

With petals covered in bright golden yellow color, Corn Marigold flowers are a kind of flowering plant that belong in the family Asteraceae, which can withstand extremely hot temperatures. It’s one of the easiest plants to plant in a garden, making it a good pick for gardening beginners.

Plant your marigold seeds in spring, preferably after the last frost, then see them bloom to their best from around June to October. Corn Marigolds can be planted in both outdoor and indoor environments with the seedlings being germinated placed above the refrigerator, then once germinated, transport it outdoors at the start of spring.

3. Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

If you want to grow a plant that has beautiful and fragrant flowers, then the Yarrow should be on your list! It’s a flowering plant that can grow up to two to three feet in height.  The Yarrow is also a perennial plant, which means that it can live and bloom for more than two years.

This plant is perfect to grow in the spring as it blooms from June to September. It’s also one of the easiest plants you can grow as it could tolerate droughts and dry soils. Just make sure to plant the Yarrow in an area that has full sun exposure and well-drained soil.

4. Plantain Lily (Hosta sieboldiana)

Just like the other plants, Plantain Lilies are very beginner-friendly. They are best grown in the springtime, preferably in rich, moist soils.

They can mature to about 25 feet tall and 12 feet wide so it would be ideal to have an adequate space dedicated for them. You won’t have to worry about it getting rained on because these plants can often tolerate heavy rainfall.

5. Peony (Paeonia)

Best grown in spring and autumn, Peonies are a flowering plant in the genus Paeonia that is fully hardy and is capable of dealing with the winter. 

Peonies grow best with enough sun exposure per day.Peonies are preferably planted in moist and well-draining soils, but be careful to not plant it beside tall trees as it doesn’t like competing for sunlight and water.
